Hull City 3-2 Everton
Match Reports, 21:53, November 25, 2009 ,
Hull survive a second-half fightback by Everton to move four points clear of the relegation zone after a pulsating game.
The Tigers looked to have had the game wrapped up by half time as they took a three goal lead inside half an hour, thanks to some poor defending by the Toffees.
Stephen Hunt opened the scoring after just nine minutes when he followed up Jozy Altidore's shot. Hull made it 2-0 on 19 minutes when Andy Dawson curled in a magnificent free-kick from 30 yards leaving Tim Howard rooted to the spot.
Phil Brown's men were in dreamland just after that as they made it three, Everton failing to clear their lines as Dean Marney's shot deflected off Tim Cahill to wrong foot Howard.
A flea in their ear from David Moyes at the break saw the visitors respond in the second half and their early pressure led to Kamil Zayatte slicing Johnny Heitinga's cross into the back of his own net on 49 minutes.
Everton then set up a grandstand finale after Zayatte brought down Louis Saha with a clumsy challenge. The French striker picked himself up to slot home the penalty - his tenth goal of the season.
Despite the visitors having a number of late chances, Hull managed to hang on to move level on points with Everton, who have now won just one of their last ten matches.
