Liverpool secured they fourth successive clean sheet at Anfield against FC Utrecht in a largely disappointing final Group K game.

Milan Jovanovic shuddered the crossbar with an early 30-yard thunderbolt but it was not a sign of things to come as there were very few other chances in a drab first half. Both teams came out in the second period with more attacking intent but the quality of play in the final third left a lot to be desired. Ryan Babel dragged a decent opportunity wide before Danny Pacheco's swerving drive was comfortably saved by Michel Vorm. Utrecht offered precious little threat with Leon De Kogel restricted to two long-range efforts before Fries Mertens could not direct a difficult volley on target. Joe Cole missed two great chances late on with a goal-bound effort after a poor clearance blocked before failing to connect properly with Fabio Aurelio's deflected cross. It was a rather uninspiring game for the Liverpool fans to watch but the much-changed Reds lineup continued the club's unbeaten run in Europe going, although precious few enhanced their claims for a regular starting place.
