Liverpool 0-0 Stoke City
Match Reports, 21:25, January 14, 2012
Stoke City secured a point at Anfield as they managed to keep Liverpool at bay in a game with few clear-cut chances on Saturday.
Liverpool dominated possession in the early stages with Stoke chasing shadows in the opening exchanges.
The Reds created the first chance of the game on 12 minutes, when a Steven Gerrard corner was flicked on by Martin Skrtel but the ball fell just behind Charlie Adam who failed to hit the target at the back post.
Liverpool continued to press but the Potters looked dangerous on the counter attack and Matthew Etherington had their best opportunity as he fired a shot goalward but unfortunately for the visitors it was straight down the throat of keeper Pepe Reina on 23 minutes.
In the second half Liverpool continued to press but the stubborn Stoke defence managed to keep them at bay.
On 77 minutes Dirk Kuyt had the best chance of the game as he found himself free six yards out but headed his effort wide of the mark when he should have scored.
Liverpool could have secured the winner with less than five minutes to go but Skrtel's header bounced into the ground and over the crossbar from short range.
The Potters held off late pressure to deny the Reds and secured a point at Anfield, as Liverpool continue to drop points at home in the Premier League.
