A Martin Skrtel own goal was enough to give Fulham their first win on Merseyside against a lacklustre Liverpool on Tuesday night.

Liverpool got out of the traps poorly and they were made to pay for their slow start, when Alexander Kacaniklic saw his effort take a heavy deflection off Reds defender Skrtel to then find its way past his own keeper Alexander Doni on the fifth minute. The home side did start to find their way into the game, with frontman Andy Carroll causing the Fulham defence problems with his physical presence, before firing a decent header straight at Mark Schwarzer just before the break. Liverpool enjoyed more of the ball in the second-half but it was the visitors who had the better of the chances, with substitute Kerim Frei hitting the outside of the woodwork on 64 minutes. Clint Dempsey had two decent opportunities to end the game as a contest but the American could not find the back of the next when Doni was called into action. The home side never really looked like finding an equaliser and it was Fulham who secured all three points at Anfield.
