A late header from Liverpool striker Andy Carroll was enough to help his side win their Merseyside derby FA Cup semi-final clash.
It was a scrappy start to the encounter at Wembley, with limited chances for both teams, as neither Brad Jones nor Tim Howard were tested in the early stages. However, it was the Everton fans who were cheering on 24 minutes when a mix up between Daniel Agger and Jamie Carragher resulted in the ball being blasted at Tim Cahill, only for the ball to fall to Nikica Jelavic who made no mistake and slotted it home. Liverpool struggled to create opportunities and were handed a gift from Sylvain Distin when his poor backpass was latched on to by Luis Suarez, who comfortably finished to level the scores in the 62nd minute. The game looked like it was edging towards extra-time, however there was late drama on 87 minutes as substitute Craig Bellamy produced a fine ball to Carroll who this time found the back of the net with a header, having scuppered earlier opportunities. There was little time for Everton to get back into the game and it was Liverpool who booked their place in the FA Cup final.
