Liverpool 3-1 Tottenham Hotspur

Match Reports, 18:07, May 24, 2009 ,

Liverpool finished the season on a high with a comfortable 3-1 win over Tottenham at Anfield.

Spurs went into the game needing three points to secure the final European qualifying place for next season, but never looked like overcoming the home side.
Liverpool took the lead after half-an-hour when Fernando Torres rose above Benoit Assou-Ekotto to head home Dirk Kuyt's deep cross.
Kuyt doubled the lead in the 63rd minute when his shot deflected off Alan Hutton to wrong foot Heurelho Gomes in the Spurs goal.
Former Anfield striker Robbie Keane reduced the arrears when he stroked the ball under Pep Reina.
But Yossi Benayoun restored his side's two-goal buffer when he beat Gomes at the second attempt after being set up by Steven Gerrard.
The biggest cheer of the afternoon was reserved for departing Liverpool defender Sami Hyypia, who made his 464th and final appearance for the Merseysiders when he replaced Gerrard late on.
