Manchester City 1-0 Bolton Wanderers

Match Reports, 18:10, May 24, 2009 ,

A solitary goal from Felipe Caicedo was enough to ensure the win for City in this effectively meaningless season finale.

With neither side facing the prospect of relegation or the chance to play in Europe next season, this game meant very little to either side and Bolton in particular looked sloppy in the opening stages.
The Wanderers' complacency cost them early in the game as Stephen Ireland lifted the ball into the Bolton penalty area. Micah Richards met the ball with a spectacular overhead kick which Caicedo was on hand to tap into the Bolton goal after just eight minutes.
The visitors did get their act together, though, and were nearly level midway through the first half when Johan Elmander's strike beat City keeper Shay Given, only for Richard Dunne to make a goal line clearance and deny the Swede his seventh goal of the season.
There was very much and end of season feeling in the second half as neither side took control of the game, some showboating from Robinho raised the spirits of the home crowd but the talented Brazilian couldn't find a way past Jussi Jaaskelainen in the Bolton goal as City hung on for a 1-0 win.
