Manchester United 0-0 Arsenal

Match Reports, 17:10, May 16, 2009 ,

A tense game at Old Trafford ended in joy for United as they claimed the point needed to win their third title in a row.

Neither side appeared happy to take a point from the game in an entertaining first half, but clear chances were at a premium.
Robin van Persie, leading the line in the absence of Emmanuel Adebayor, had the first chance of the game with a quarter of an hour gone but headed wide from six yards out. Wayne Rooney also missed the target with his header a couple of minutes later, and neither keeper was really tested in the first period.
Arsenal enjoyed much of the possession after the break but were unable to force Edwin van der Sar in the home goal into any significant saves. Cristiano Ronaldo came closest to breaking the deadlock, his free-kick flying just wide of Lukasz Fabianski's post with the Arsenal keeper stranded.
Nerves were frayed inside the stadium as the minutes ticked away and Arsenal continued to press, but the champions, despite not playing at their best, held on to claim their 18th league title in total.
