Manchester United 3-0 Bolton Wanderers

Match Reports, 21:29, January 14, 2012

Paul Scholes was on the scoresheet as Manchester United cruised to a routine 3-0 win against relegation-threatened Bolton Wanderers.

After Adam Bogdan had saved Wayne Rooney's penalty, Scholes broke the deadlock on the stroke of half time before Danny Welbeck and Michael Carrick added further goals after the break.
The win lifts United, who had lost to Blackburn Rovers and Newcastle United in their previous two league games, level on points with leaders Manchester City, who face Wigan Athletic on Monday.
United dominated the match from the first whistle and won a penalty midway through the first half when Zat Knight, who was fortunate to stay on the pitch, fouled Welbeck. However, Bogdan made a superb save to keep Rooney's spot-kick out.
It seemed as though Owen Coyle's side would remain on level terms until the break, but, in first-half stoppage time, Scholes, recently coaxed out of retirement by Sir Alex Ferguson, popped up inside the six-yard box to guide the ball home.
Bolton never really looked like getting back on to level terms in the second half and Welbeck, who was injured in the act of scoring and had to be replaced by Javier Hernandez, made it 2-0 in the 74th minute after being set up by Rooney.
Michael Carrick added a fine individual goal with seven minutes left as United strolled to an easy victory while Bolton are looking increasingly like relegation material.
