Manchester United 4-0 Hull City

Match Reports, 17:54, January 23, 2010 ,

Wayne Rooney fired Manchester United to the top of the table with a stunning four-goal salvo against Hull.

There were a few empty seats around the ground and the fans protested against the Glazer family throughout the game but the United players were not affected by any of the off-field distractions, with Rooney putting the home side ahead in the eighth minute.
Boaz Myhill, Hull's hero last weekend against Spurs, could only parry Paul Scholes's long-range strike and Rooney was there to slot home from 10 yards.
United went on to dominate the first half but couldn't add to the score while Nicky Barmby was the only Hull player to trouble Edwin van der Sar.
The second goal did not arrive until the 81st minute, with Rooney taking advantage of a collision between Myhill and Andy Dawson following Nani's free-kick to put the ball into the unguarded net.
United were rampant now and Rooney got his hat-trick four minutes later, heading Nani's cross in at the far post.
Rooney crowned his man-of-the-match performance two minutes into injury time, picking up substitute Dimitar Berbatov's cross and beating Paul McShane and Kamil Zayatte before slotting the ball home.
