Ten-man Newcastle slipped back into the relegation zone after being defeated by Fulham, who continue their push for Europe.

The home side made a lively start but were frustrated by a well-organised Fulham side. Obefami Martins hit the post after a fine one-two with Kevin Nolan while Mark Viduka came close but his header flashed just wide.
The atmosphere became increasingly tense as Fulham enjoyed more possession and the only goal came five minutes before half-time. Newcastle appealed for offside against Erik Nevland but the flag stayed down and he squared the ball to Diomansy Kamara, who hammered the ball high into the roof net.
Newcastle came out fighting after the break and Viduka had a header cleared off the line by Dickson Etuhu, before soon after having a goal ruled out by Howard Webb.
It seemed only a matter of time before the equaliser would come, but the game changed on the hour mark when Sebastien Bassong was sent off for hauling back Kamara.
Fulham were comfortable for much of the final half-an-hour but had Mark Schwarzer to thank for preserving their lead, the Australian making a fantastic save from Nicky Butt in stoppage time.
