Newcastle United 1-2 Swansea City
Swansea produced a masterful team display to beat Newcastle 2-1 at St James' Park with goals from Michu and Jonathan De Guzman.
These sides started the day splitting the mid-table divide with Newcastle in tenth and Swansea just below them in eleventh but it was the Swans who end the day in the top half of the table after a fine display.
The first half was an open affair with both sides looking dangerous, particularly on the counter attack. Hatem Ben Arfa was causing havoc from his free-role and Gerhard Tremmel had to be at his best to keep out the Frenchman's stinging 20 yard drive. Ben Arfa was at it again moments before the break as his whipped cross was glanced a fraction wide by Demba Ba. While at the other end Tim Krul managed to keep out Pablo Hernandez's well struck volley that looked destined for the corner.
It was in the second half that the game erupted into life and the first goal finally arrived just before the hour mark as Swansea broke and Hernandez's cross was met by a stooping Michu.
Newcastle struggled to test Tremmel as Swansea remained well organised and the three points were clinched with three minutes left as Jonathan De Guzman reacted fastest after Tim Krul kept out Danny Graham's effort.
Some of the gloss was taken off a fine day for the visitors when Demba Ba struck in the dying seconds but it was never going to be more than a consolation with the final whistle just moments away.
