Portsmouth 0-1 Manchester City

Match Reports, 15:31, August 30, 2009 ,

Emmanuel Adebayor's third goal of the season lifted Manchester City into the top four as Portsmouth lost their fourth straight game.

Adebayor's goal came after half an hour of gritty action with Pompey doing well to close down City at every opportunity before falling asleep at a Gareth Barry corner, allowing the former Arsenal hit man to head from six yards.
City had the ball in the back of the net again just before half-time when Craig Bellamy's low cross was bundled in by Micah Richards, but the assistant referee spotted Barry was offside and active in the move and the goal was struck off.
Mark Hughes' side continued to dominate after the break with Adebayor going close after a sublime piece of skill, while Kolo Toure smashed a volley over from 12 yards.
However, as full-time approached Pompey finally began to test the City defence with substitute David Nugent having a glorious chance to level the game, beating a defender before hitting his shot straight at Shay Given from seven yards out.
