Portsmouth 1-1 Sunderland
Match Reports, 22:00, February 9, 2010 ,
Aruna Dindane scored deep into injury-time to save a point for Portsmouth against nine-man Sunderland at Fratton Park.
The home side themselves had a man sent-off during a game that was eventful from start to finish. It only took ten minutes for the first major incident to occur as Ricardo Rocha was dismissed for fouling Darren Bent.
The Sunderland striker then picked himself up to slot the penalty past David James to give the away side the lead. Portsmouth still gave as good as they got in the remainder of a first half where both teams had their chances.
The turning point perhaps came in the 53rd minute though when Lee Cattermole was shown a second yellow-card to even the numbers up once again. This lifted the home crowd as Jamie O'Hara came close from distance on several occasions.
With plenty of time remaining, the game could have gone either way. Sunderland had a great chance to seal the victory as Matthew Kilgallon's effort came back off the post, but it wasn't to be.
Shortly after coming on for the injured Andy Reid, David Meyler was shown a red-card for appearing to elbow Steve Finnan in the 88th minute.
There were then 6 minutes of injury-time announced for Portsmouth to make their man advantage count and they did just that with virtually the last kick of the game. Dindane headed home from O'Hara's cross to condemn Sunderland to 12 games without a victory.
