Portsmouth 1-1 West Ham United
Match Reports, 22:03, January 26, 2010 ,
Super-sub Danny Webber's 75th minute equaliser rescued a point for Portsmouth in a bottom-of-the-table clash with West Ham.
Matthew Upson had given the visitors the lead seven minutes into the second-half as he bundled home Alessandro Diamanti's swinging cross but Webber's 50th career goal earnt his side their share of the spoils.
The first-half ended goalless following top drawer saves at either end. Asmir Begovic showed why he is Pompey's number one as he denied one-on-one opportunities from Frank Nouble and Jack Collison. Alessandro Diamanti also saw a curling effort turned around the post as he looked to net against Portsmouth for the second time this season.
Aaron Mokoena came closest for the hosts as he forced a fine stop out of England international Rob Green with a 20-yard drive.
Mark Wilson almost netted his first Portsmouth goal following the restart but steered Angelos Basinas' corner over the bar from six-yards.
18-year-old Nouble impressed for the West Ham but there was no greater cheer from the travelling supporters than when he was replaced by Carlton Cole, back from injury, late on in the second-half. The England International tried to make an impact but failed to work Begovic as his only shot flashed wide of the target.
The Hammers had their sights set on a winning start to their new era but new owners David Gold and David Sullivan will now have to look to Saturday's clash with Blackburn to see their new club try and pull away from the relegation zone.
