Portsmouth 1-2 Tottenham Hotspur

Match Reports, 17:27, October 17, 2009 ,

Harry Redknapp gained a win on his return to Portsmouth thanks to first-half goals from King and Defoe, who was later sent off.

After Aruna Dindane's glaring miss from close range for the home side in the opening 15 minutes, Spurs took the lead on 29 minutes when Ledley King powered home a header from Niko Kranjcar's corner.
It looked to be game over just before the break when Jermain Defoe tucked home a chance from six-yards out against his former club to double Tottenham's lead.
However, Portsmouth started the second half brightly and their reward came on the hour mark as Kevin-Prince Boateng pulled one back, volleying home at the back post after Michael Brown's deep cross.
Portsmouth continued to press forward in an attempt to score an equaliser and they were further buoyed when the away side went down to ten men, Defoe sent-off after he trod on Aaron Mokoena.
Although they kept throwing men forward and creating chances, Pompey hopes were ended in injury time when midfielder Brown picked up two yellow cards in quick succession.
