Spain set up a semi-final meeting with Portugal thanks to a brace from Xabi Alonso as they swept aside a poor France team in Donetsk.

The reigning champions were never really tested by an out of sorts French team, who came with a game plan to try and frustrate the Spanish to start with.
After a cagey opening Spain scored with their first real chance of the match in the 19th minute, Jordi Alba beating Anthony Réveillere and Mathieu Debuchy on the left before finding Alonso with his cross to the far post, the Real Madrid man scoring with his head on his 100th cap for his country.
France barely threatened Iker Casillas's goal in the first half and after the break Laurent Blanc made some attacking changes, bringing on Samir Nasri and Jeremy Menez in the hope of turning the tide.
Despite Spain being out of sorts in the second half they were never really tested, Franck Ribery's shot from a tight angle as good as it got for France.
With the French well beaten Spain put the icing on the cake in the last minute from the penalty spot after Pedro had been brought down by Réveillere.
Alonso stepped up to send Hugo Lloris the wrong way with his second goal of the night as Spain set up a semi-final clash with Portugal on Tuesday.
