A route one goal from Tuncay was enough to save Stoke's blushes after Cardiff City capitalised on a slow start by the home side.

The game was just eight minutes home when Bluebirds midfielder Stephen McPhail sent in a peach of a cross for Michael Chopra. The striker beat Thomas Sorensen with a fine header, only to be denied by the post before following up well and slotting home with his left foot. Stoke had done little of note up until that point, and it took them a while to come back into the game but as the first half progressed they slowly started to run the game. The home side almost equalised in spectacular fashion when Mark Wilson fired a 40-yard freekick off the angle of post and bar. However, it took a little bit of route one magic to level the scores. Sorenson's clearance was flicked on by Ricardo Fuller in to the path of Tuncay. If the build up wasn't pretty, the finish was sublime as the he fired home from 20-yards out. Stoke continued to boss the game in the second half, and Cardiff rarely threatened, but the home side were unable to make their pressure count and the game finished in a frustrating stalemate.
