Stoke and Hull shared the points at the Britannia Stadium, Ricardo Fuller equalising for the home side after Marlon King's opener.
King provided the highlight of an otherwise disappointing first half, turning well inside the box before firing into the top corner on the stroke of half time after a free-kick was nodded down by Michael Turner.
The goal came against the run of play with Stoke having just about edged proceedings, going close through Fuller.
The Stoke striker almost equalised after the break when his header was well saved by Boaz Myhill, before levelling terms from the spot on 73 minutes after the Hull keeper was adjudged to have brought him down. Myhill got a hand to Fuller's penalty but could not stop the ball nestling in the back of the net.
Despite plenty of endeavour neither side was able to find a winner as it finished all square.
