Sunderland 0-0 Stoke City

Match Reports, 22:15, February 1, 2010 ,

Sunderland's poor run of form continued as they laboured to a turgid 0-0 draw with Stoke at the Stadium Of Light.

It is now just one win in 14 games for Steve Bruce's side following a game high on effort but low on quality.
Stoke had a great chance to open the scoring after just three minutes when Tuncay's neat back-heel was collected by Dean Whitehead in the penalty area, but his low shot was well saved by Craig Gordon.
That early chance proved to be a highpoint of an attritional first half, with the Sunderland fans growing increasingly frustrated with their side's lack of cutting edge.
The second half continued the pattern of the first with both sides lacking a cutting edge in the final third.
Sunderland fans were claiming a penalty on the hour when Robert Huth appeared to handle a Darren bent cross, but both the referee and his assistant failed to spot it, much to the frustration of the Black Cats faithful.
Substitute Riccardo Fuller had a chance to win it for Stoke late on following a mazy 20 yard run but his shot was palmed away by Gordon.
The boos at the final whistle summed the game up as Sunderland's slide down the table continues, they remain two points behind the Potters in 13th place.
