Just before the break Victor Moses fed Franco Di Santo running into the right channel but he couldn't beat the Swansea keeper from the narrow angle.
With 20 minutes to play Wigan's Jordi Gomez teed himself up and lifted an audacious left-footed effort over Michael Vorm but the shot came back off the inside of the post.
Just three minutes later Victor Moses struck a fierce left-footed effort against the upright. The rebound fell to Gomez who was brought down in the box by Ashley Williams. The resulting penalty was taken by Ben Watson but the low effort was saved by Vorm diving to his right.
The goalless draw is Wigan's second consecutive draw against newly promoted opposition and earns Swansea City their first point in the Premier League.
