A dour game suddenly burst into life in the second half as three goals were scored in four minutes which Swansea claim the points.
The home side took the lead after 65 minutes, when Pablo Hernandez turned well in the box and fired in a shot, that Al-Habsi should have done better with, to score his first goal in English football.
The Swans then doubled their lead just two minutes later when Michu headed home his seventh goal of an already impressive debut season for the club.
Wigan, though fought back almost instantly as Emmerson Boyce cleverly back heeled in a cross to reduce the deficit and the Latics can count themselves unlucky not to have equalised after Arouna Kone had a header ruled out harshly for offside.
