Swindon Town 2-1 Wigan Athletic
Match Reports, 21:39, January 7, 2012
League Two Swindon caused one of the upsets of the FA Cup third round as they came from behind to beat Premier League side Wigan.
Paolo Di Canio's men deservedly saw off the Latics with goals from Alan Connell and Paul Benson to cancel out Callum McManaman's opener at the County Ground to consign Wigan, who are also struggling in the top flight this season, to another miserable afternoon.
The game began brightly with Swindon taking the game to the visitors and Ronan Murray forced a good early save out of Ali Al-Habsi.
However, they fell behind on 34 minutes when McManaman slotted home the rebound after Ben Watson had missed from the spot. The Robins were only behind for six minutes as Connell's brilliant deft back header made it 1-1 before the break.
Di Canio's men then went in search of the winner in the second half and eventually made the breakthrough their play deserved when Benson struck with 14 minutes remaining.
It was no more than they deserved and they will take the plaudits for seeing off the Premier League side while Wigan's poor season takes a turn for the worse.
