Tottenham Hotspur 2-0 Blackburn Rovers

Spurs cruised to an easy 2-0 victory against an insipid Blackburn side that failed to have a shot on goal throughout the 90 minutes.
The victory lifts Harry Redknapp's side back into the top four but it is looking increasingly likely that Rovers will be joining Wolves in the Championship next season. It was a curious performance by Steve Kean's side as they defended for virtually the entire 90 minutes. They barely got out of their own half even though they desperately needed a victory to improve their chances of avoiding the drop. But they produced an incredibly lack-lustre display and were fortunate not to lose by a much wider margin. Spurs almost opened the scoring inside the first 60 seconds, Aaron Lennon firing into the side-netting after being set up by Luka Modric while Sandro hit the underside of Paul Robinson's crossbar in the ninth minute with a thunderous 25-yard strike. The only surprise was that Spurs took until the 22nd minute to take the lead, Rafael van der Vaart lashing the ball home from close range after a goalmouth scramble. The goal failed to lift Rovers out of their lethargy and they were lucky not to be 2-0 down at the interval as William Gallas grazed the crossbar with a near-post header from a corner. If anything, Rovers got even worse in the second 45 minutes as Spurs strolled through the rest of the match, doubling their lead with 15 minutes left when Kyle Walker's brilliant swerving free-kick from 30 yards out left Robinson clutching thin air. Redknapp's side must surely never have had an easier afternoon, but for Rovers their 11-year stay in the Premier League now looks certain to be coming to an end next month.
