Emmanuel Adebayor and Jermain Defoe's goals saw Spurs beat Fulham but Arsenal's win at West Brom means they finish in fourth spot.
Adebayor hit home on two minutes, the Togo international sliding the ball past Mark Schwarzer after a clever one-two with Rafael Van der Vaart. Spurs dominated possession and went close to a second when Van der Vaart's drive grazed the upright. Fulham began to find their way back into the game as the half progressed, calling Brad Friedel into action for the first time when John Arne-Riise stung the keeper's hands after breaking down the left. Schwarzer was tested again from Moussa Dembele's effort while Mahamadou Diarra fired over the crossbar. Spurs doubled their advantage on 63 minutes through substitute Defoe, the marksman tapping the ball home after Aaron Lennon's strike was blocked. Defoe's goal was a rare highlight in a flat second half, although Damien Duff and Dembele both rattled the woodwork for the Cottagers late on. The result means Spurs miss out on automatic qualification for the Champions League and must wait on Chelsea's Champions League final result to see if they will get the chance to qualify at all.
