Jermain Defoe scored five times as Tottenham went goal crazy on an afternoon to forget for Wigan at White Hart Lane.
Spurs were excellent value for their 9-1 win in a game they dominated from start to finish. The result takes them into the top four and leaves their opponents just three points above the drop zone.
The only goal of the first-half came through Peter Crouch on nine minutes as he stooped at the back post to head home an Aaron Lennon cross.
Lennon was involved in the second six minutes after the restart as he crossed low to Defoe arriving at the back post to tuck home a simple finish.
Defoe was on the score sheet again three minutes later as he latched onto a Wilson Palacios through ball and finished low across Chris Kirkland into the left hand corner.
Wigan did manage a reply soon after through Paul Scharner as he chested down a Hugo Rodallega cross before thumping the ball into the roof of the net from close range.
However, Spurs soon restored their three goal cushion as Defoe completed his hat-trick after another fine centre from Lennon that allowed the England striker to volley home from six yards.
Lennon scored himself in the sixty-four minutes and the home side made it 5-1 as he drifted in off the flank before firing the ball across Kirkland and into the bottom corner after being played in by Crouch.
Defoe scored his fourth five minutes later as his shot found the corner with the aid of the post from the right channel after a Vedran Corluka through ball.
With four minutes remaining of the 90, Defoe dispossessed Erik Edman on the edge of the box and strode on to finish across Kirkland and score his fifth goal.
Substitute David Bentley made it eight two minutes later as he curled a free-kick into the top corner from twenty-five yards with precision and power, although it did go in off the Latics keeper.
The scoring was completed four minutes into injury time as Niko Kranjcar wandered into the box before turning onto his right-foot and driving the ball into the top corner.
