Valencia 1-0 Stoke City

Match Reports, 22:14, February 23, 2012

A first-half goal from Oliviera Jonas was enough to give Valencia a deserved victory in Spain over a lacklustre Stoke City outfit.

Valencia nearly took the lead inside the very first minute when a free-kick from Dani Parejo just outside the box clattered against the crossbar.
However it was the visitors who enjoyed a number of chances at the Mestalla, with Kenwyne Jones squandering three decent chances in the first 45 minutes.
The best opportunity for the striker came from a perfectly weighted through ball from Wilson Palacios but the Trinidad and Tobago star saw his shot comfortably saved.
Stoke were hit on the counter attack for the only goal of the game, when Pablo Hernandez beat Danny Collins all ends up before playing a simple ball to OJonas, who tapped the ball home on 24 minutes.
The game descended into a scrappy affair in the second-half with no less than seven yellow cards handed out.
Valencia should have put the game to bed when Roberto Soldado attempted to play the ball through Sorensen's legs when he should have passed it into the net on 79 minutes.
However it didn't matter and it was Los Che who secured their place in the last 16 of the Europa League with a 2-0 aggregate scoreline, as the Potters bowed out of the competition.
