West Bromwich Albion 0-3 Chelsea
Match Reports, 19:45, November 15, 2008 ,
Chelsea produced a devastating spell of attacking football before half-time to blow away West Brom and record a routine 3-0 victory.
Tony Mowbray's side began quickly as they looked to pressurise a weakened Chelsea backline missing Ashley Cole, Petr Cech, Ricardo Carvalho and Alex. Ishmael Miller was a lick of paint away from giving them a surprise lead inside ten minutes.
However, the Blues slowly forced their way into the game and eventually found a way through a resolute Baggies backline in the 34th minute as Jose Bosingwa cut inside on to his unfavoured left foot and curled the ball past a wrong-footed Scott Carson and into the top corner.
Luiz Felipe Scolari's men continued to flow forward and only had to wait a further four minutes before in-form Nicolas Anelka doubled the lead as he ran half the length of the field before producing a delightful clipped finish over a diving Carson.
The home side thought they had re-discovered a foothold in the game after the second goal with Miller giving Branislav Ivanovic and John Terry problems with his pace in the channels, but Anelka put the result beyond doubt on the stroke of half-time as he turned home Salomon Kalou's driven cross.
Chelsea cruised through the second period and could have added to the scoreline on a number of occasions, although Mowbray will surely be delighted that his team continued to press on and look for a way back into a game that had long been taken away from them by a devastating ten minutes of football from the visitors.
