Second half goals from Ledley King and Jamie O'Hara handed Tottenham a 2-0 win against London rivals West Ham at Upton Park.
Spurs enjoyed the better chances throughout, while the Hammers had plenty of possession but lacked the creativity to break them down as Harry Redknapp's men secured their first clean sheet away from home this season.
Tottenham should have been in front inside the opening minute when Aaron Lennon's cross from the left wing found David Bentley in the area and he teed up Luka Modric whose close range effort was straight at Hammers keeper Robert Green.
The game settled down but chances were few and far between, while West Ham skipper Lucas Neill had an effort from a corner disallowed for a clear tug on Jermaine Jenas in the box on 22 minutes.
The contest remained fairly even, but Bentley forced a fine save from Green on 38 minutes after he latched on to a poor headed clearance from Neill inside the penalty area.
The best chance of the half also came for the visitors on 42 minutes when Lennon's excellent low ball across the Hammers' goalmouth found Roman Pavlyuchenko at the back post, but the Russian hitman could only divert his right-foot effort against the bottom of the post at full stretch.
The second half started slowly with the first real action producing the opening goal of the match on 68 minutes when Lennon's cross from the right wing found King in the area and his downward header bounced into the corner of the net past Green.
It looked game over as Spurs did well to take the sting out of the Hammers, but they very nearly equalised in the 89th minute.
A corner into the box found Lucas Neill whose stinging drive was parried away by Heurelho Gomes. But when the Hammers got the ball back into the box David Di Michele looked to have a tap in from a few yards but he was again denied by the heroics of Gomes.
West Ham were made to pay for that miss within a minute as Spurs raced up the field and substitute O'Hara was given time and space to fire past Green from the edge of the area to seal the win.
Spurs move up above West Ham into 15th place and level with them on 18 points - three ahead of Sunderland in the drop zone.
