Match Reports, 17:16, December 5, 2009 ,

Manchester United sent a message to their title rivals with a devastating display against West Ham United at Upton Park.

Paul Scholes netted in the first half, before goals after the break from Darren Gibson, Antonia Valencia and Wayne Rooney confirmed Manchester United's superiority.
The visitors quickly took control, despite losing Gary Neville midway through the first half, but took until stoppage time in the first half to break the deadlock, Scholes blasting a left-foot shot into the top corner of the net.
Darren Gibson rifled home a second on the hour mark to double the lead, before Valencia converted Anderson's 71st-minute pass to net his fifth of the season.
Within a minute of the restart Valencia turned provider for Rooney to score his 11th league goal of the season with a simple tap-in.
It was a disappointing afternoon for Gianfranco Zola and his side. However, despite the big win Sir Alex Ferguson will leave East London with problems at the back as he ended the game with a defence of Darren Fletcher, Michael Carrick, Patrice Evra and Ryan Giggs ahead of a midweek Champions League group decider at Wolfsburg.
