West Ham United 1-2 Everton
Match Reports, 17:16, November 8, 2009 ,
Everton secured their first win in seven thanks to goals by Louis Saha and Dan Gosling while the Hammers slipped into the drop zone.
The deadlock was broken just shy of the half-hour mark as Saha stepped forward from just outside the box and fired an unstoppable low effort into the bottom corner to put the home side ahead.
West Ham threatened to hit back after half-time though, and dominated the game for large periods.
On the hour, Scott Parker was inches away from equalising, as he fired just wide after a short corner from Alessandro Diamante.
However, he was made to pay four minutes later when Everton went two up through Gosling.
The midfielder's shot from twelve yards was turned back to him by Robert Green, and he made no mistake with the rebound as he steered the ball under the keeper's body to find the net.
Just seconds later, West Ham were back in the game as Diamante found Junior Stanislas in the box. The substitute placed the shot beyond Tim Howard and despite the efforts of Tony Hibbert to clear the danger he couldn't and instead send the ball into the roof of his own net.
Gianfranco Zola's men had plenty of chances to level the scores and Stanislas fired wide of the mark from twelve yards with ten minutes to go after a corner fell for him nicely in the box.
The defeat leaves West Ham in the Premier League's bottom three despite a fine performance but Everton made them pay for their missed chances and picked up a much needed win.
