West Ham United 2-1 Stoke City

Match Reports, 16:29, December 28, 2008

Second-half substitute Diego Tristan secured West Ham a late and incident-packed 2-1 win against 10-man Stoke at Upton Park.

The visitors went ahead after just five minutes when the unmarked Abdoulaye Faye nodded home his second goal of the season from a Danny Pugh corner.

Carlton Cole squandered the best chance of the first half for the home side when he missed with a header from eight yards. But the Hammers forward made amends six minutes after the restart when he received space in the box and bent a low shot into the bottom corner for his second goal in two days.

The equaliser sent the visitors into turmoil and Ricardo Fuller was given his marching orders from referee Mike Jones for aiming a punch at team-mate Andy Griffin.

Gianfranco Zola's side knocked on Stoke's door for the remainder of the game but it was not until the 87th minute when substitute Tristan turned home Cole's original shot to earn a second successive win for the east Londoners.
