Wigan Athletic 1-0 Everton
Match Reports, 22:03, November 24, 2008 ,
Henri Camara's goal six minutes into the second half earned Wigan a slender win over Everton to move them out of the bottom three.
Camara, who came on for the ineffective Olivier Kapo at half time, turned home Antonio Valencia's ball in from the right for his first league goal of the season to give Steve Bruce's side a much-needed three points.
Latics just about deserved the victory after creating the better chances at the JJB Stadium as Everton's recent good run was brought to an end.
The visitors had started the better of the two sides, however, with Tim Cahill twice going close with headers in the first half before Wilson Palacios somehow headed over at the other end with the goal at his mercy.
Lee Cattermole and Paul Scharner then forced Tim Howard into fine saves in first-half stoppage time as Bruce's side ended the first period strongly.
They continued to press immediately after the break and were rewarded with Camara's goal after Valencia had done well on the right to set him up.
Despite falling behind, Everton failed to respond in a positive fashion and only looked like grabbing an equaliser late on when first Cahill's effort was blocked by Scharner before the Australian forward fired over in stoppage time from a great position.
Wigan move out of the drop-zone and up to 15th after the win while Everton stay 7th.
