First half goals from Franco Di Santo, Shaun Maloney and two from Victor Moses help Wigan cruise to an emphatic victory over Newcastle.

Moses netted the first goal thirteen minutes into the game as he headed Emerson Boyce's cross into the top corner. Two minutes later Moses bagged his second as he latched onto a loose ball in the box, opening up his body and stroking the ball into the bottom corner. Maloney added the third on thirty-five minutes as he burst free down the left hand side. Maloney broke into the box and calmly curled the ball beyond Tim Krul and into the far corner as Wigan took complete control. Newcastle's embarrassment continued on the stroke of halftime as Di Santo picked out the top corner with a superb long range effort. Krul was barely off his line but was still powerless to prevent the curling effort from creeping under the bar. Wigan put on a professional display in the second half but Pappiss Cisse struck the woodwork twice. First, the Senegalese international curled an effort from the left channel against the bar before his close range header bounced back off the post. Newcastle remain in the fourth despite a disappointing result while Wigan move into sixteenth place in the Premier League, three clear of the drop zone.
