Wolves have slipped to the foot of the Premier League on Boxing Day after falling to losing 2-1 to relegation rivals Wigan at Molineux.

The visitors got off to a flying start when Hugo Rodallega opened the scoring inside ten minutes with a cracking finish.
He latched onto Gary Caldwell's looping pass to fire a volley into the bottom corner of Wayne Hennessey's goal. Man Utd loanee Tom Cleverley then doubled the scoring on the 20th minute when he latched onto a Rodallega pass and slid a shot through the legs of the keeper.
Wolves were left shell-shocked and could not find a way back into the game. Stephen Ward had a penalty shout turned down by referee Mike Dean when he seemed to be brought down inside the box by Steve Gohouri. Nenad Milijas had the best chance for the hosts but his deflected free-kick was superbly saved by the legs of Ali Al-Habsi.
Substitute Steve Fletcher grabbed a late goal for Wanderers who were second best throughout the game and it was not enough to spark a comeback. Mick McCarthy's Christmas and 500th game in charge will not be one to remember then, but for under-pressure Roberto Martinez three points are the perfect gift as his side leapfrog Fulham and Birmingham to climb out of the bottom three.
