Juan Martin del Potro is keen to end 2012 in style after he was guaranteed a spot in the ATP World Tour Finals in London next month.
The 2009 US Open champion improved his chances of reaching the end-of-season showpiece with victory at the Erste Bank Open in Vienna last week. He will now, however, definitely be at the O2 Arena in December after Rafael Nadal confirmed his long-standing knee injury would prevent him from competing at the eight-player tournament. While Del Potro admitted he felt "sad" for Nadal, he is determined to make the most of his opportunity. "It's only eight players fighting for one tournament. It's the best eight players of the year, so it's very important to me," said the 24-year-old. "I'm so glad to be there once again. I will be fighting against the big names and maybe I'll have a chance to make another final." Del Potro will feature alongside Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic, Andy Murray, David Ferrer and Tomas Berdych at the star-studded event, with Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, Janko Tipsarevic, Richard Gasquet and Nicolas Almagro battling it out for the remaining two places.
