Tommy Haas has collected his first ATP Tour title in three years after a surprise win over Roger Federer at the Gerry Weber Open.
Ironically, the German's last tournament success came at Halle in 2009 - when he defeated Novak Djokovic - but he was a big outsider going into Sunday's final against the world number three.
Federer had won 10 of their previous 12 meetings, but Haas was in determined mood in front of his home crowd and took a tight first set on a tie-break.
The expected fightback from the five-time Halle champion didn't materialise and Haas also took the second set, after securing a break of serve in the ninth game - to record a 7-6 (7-5) 6-4 success.
The 34-year-old German has been as high as number two in the world rankings but has dropped to 87 at present, and was recently handed a wildcard place at this year's Wimbledon.
