Local favourite Gael Monfils has been forced to pull out of the French Open because of his knee injury.

The world number 13 has been forced to withdraw from his home Grand Slam after the injury failed to respond to treatment in the build-up to the big tournament at Roland Garros, which begins on Sunday. Monfils has been receiving treatment on the injury he suffered in his second-round defeat to Brian Baker in the Nice Open on Wednesday but, after seeking medical advice, was told he will need three weeks to recover fully. Roland Garros organisers say the 2008 semi-finalist will be replaced in the draw by a 'lucky loser' - a player beaten in the qualifying tournament.
