Andy Murray made short work of Colombian Santiago Giraldo, winning 6-1 6-2 to progress to the Barcelona Open quarter-finals.
The 24-year-old immediately broke serve in the opening set in making a dominant start and although he conceded break points in the third game, he pulled out two aces to go 3-0 up. The world number four looked in good touch from the baseline, which bodes well with the French Open looming, and cruised through to record a 6-1 success. Giraldo suffered another early break in the second set but showed his spirit to break back and level the set at 2-2 as Murray faltered. However, the British number one quickly regained his composure to break back immediately before closing out the match with the minimum of fuss. Murray is now through to his first quarter-final in Barcelona and will face 11th seed Milos Raonic.
