Nadal aiming for career Grand Slam
Men's Tennis, 19:20, July 5, 2010 ,
Rafael Nadal has admitted he is targeting winning all four Grand Slams after his second Wimbledon success in three years.
The Spaniard beat Czech Tomas Berdych in straight sets at the All England Club on Sunday and admitted he would like to be the fourth player in the Open era to win all four majors. He is hoping to follow in the footsteps of Rod Laver, Andre Agassi and Roger Federer.
To do this, Nadal will need to win on the hard courts at Flushing Meadows, a tournament where he has traditionally underachieved, before winning in Australia in the new year.
Nadal conceded that winning the US Open may be the most difficult of the four for him to claim, but admitted that "it is a goal I will have for the rest of my career."
He went on to say; "I will try to prepare well but it will be very difficult to play well in New York. But I have had two semi-finals in the last two years there so I am not very far away."
Nadal has suffered comprehensive defeats to Andy Murray and Juan Martin Del Potro in the semi-finals of the last two US Opens and he knows he will need to up his game if he is to achieve sucess in the Big Apple.
However, the Spaniard has also admitted he will take a month off to party and go fishing before he even thinks about the fourth and final Slam of the year.
