Britain's Heather Watson has revealed her delight at returning to the French Open having booked her place in the second round.

The 20-year-old has looked in decent touch since playing in Miami and has been able to take that form to Roland Garros where she has seen off the Russian Elena Vesnina. Watson thrived in the warm conditions in France and managed to win in straight sets against Vesnina, with a 6-2 6-4 victory to continue her journey in the grand slam event. The youngster is already looking forward to the next round of the major competition and has admitted she has enjoyed playing on the courts at Roland Garros. She said: "I'm very happy. I haven't had the best year so far. Then suddenly in Miami I started to play a lot better and got my two biggest wins (over Sorana Cirstea and Lucie Safarova). "So I've just carried on working hard. I knew I had a lot of points here to defend, but I just didn't want to focus on that, just take each round at a time. That's what I've done. I've ended up playing really well."
