Venus Williams has vowed to return to Wimbledon for the Olympics and next year's Grand Slam after crashing out on day one.

The five-time Wimbledon champion lost to Russian Elena Vesnina 6-1 6-3 on Court Two but afterwards the American insisted she would be back for the London Olympics later this summer and plans to return to SW19 in 2013 too. Williams has been suffering with Sjogren's syndrome, an auto-immune disease which has effected her health and kept her out for several months between last summer's US Open and the WTA tournament at Miami in March. After her early exit, Williams was coy on her future but said she plans to be back at Wimbledon. "Yeah, at the Olympics you'll see me here," she said before answering a question over whether she will be back next year with the reply: "I'm planning on it."
