Boro reject Pompey bid

Portsmouth have vowed not to increase their £4.5m bid for Middlesbrough midfielder Gary O'Neil after it was rejected.

Pompey are keen to recruit their former star from Boro after losing Lassana Diarra to Real Madrid but executive chairman Peter Storrie is adamant they will not be back with another offer.

Storrie told the club's website: "We made what we thought was a good offer for Gary.

"Unfortunately it was declined by Middlesbrough and we will not be increasing our bid. He would have been a good addition to the squad."

Boro have made it clear to all and sundry during the week that they have no wish or intention to sell any of their star players at this time.
