Boro set for Hibs striker raid

Middlesbrough, 10:54, January 1, 2009 ,

Middlesbrough are set to make a £2.5million swoop for Hibernian striker Steven Fletcher, according to reports in Scotland.

The Daily Record claims Boro boss Gareth Southgate is a big fan of the 21-year-old, who has been linked with moves to the Premier League in the past. And it is thought he will complete a deal for Fletcher following his involvement in the Edinburgh derby against Hearts at Tynecastle this weekend or after next Sunday's Scottish Cup clash against their local rivals.
It is thought that Hibs chief executive Rod Petrie was looking for around £4million for the club's prize asset, who has scored 38 league goals in 141 games, but is now willing to drop to £2.5million.
