Boro starlet set for Three Lions call
Middlesbrough, 12:14, October 17, 2008 ,
England coach Fabio Capello has dropped a massive hint that Middlesbrough's David Wheater could play in upcoming friendly games.
The Italian tactician appears to be responding to Boro boss Gareth Southgate's comments that he was disappointed his influential central defender was dragged to Belarus to link up with the senior squad on Wednesday and did not feature in the side after playing for the Under-21s against Wales the previous night.
Capello has now revealed that the likes of Wheater, along with Joe Hart and Gabriel Agbonlahor who were also called up from the Under-21s, are all set to be involved in friendlies against Germany in Berlin on November 19 and against Spain and Slovakia early next year.
Capello said: "For me the friendly matches are an experiment to decide the best XI. I needed to experiment when I arrived and I will do that in the next three games.
"I need players with confidence, players that have had more games with the seniors. For this reason we will do the next game with new players. I know a lot of players and some of them can play the next game.
"But I will also try to find some new players because we have to prepare for the future."
