Boss plans old club raid

Middlesbrough, 14:49, January 4, 2010 ,

Middlesbrough boss Gordon Strachan is desperate for new faces and he is targeting at least five of his former players at Celtic.

Strachan will have to cope with what limited funds he does have, but he does have around £3m to work with following the club's aborted attempt to sign Sean St Ledger following his loan from Preston.
The Boro manager made it clear after their FA Cup defeat to Manchester City that he would do everything in his power to bring in new players.
His shopping list is thought to include Gary Caldwell, Stephen McManus, Mark Wilson, Barry Robson and Scott McDonald who all worked under Strachan at Celtic Park.
The Scot said: "We really need to do something. We have got plenty of irons in the fire but it's about actually getting them.
"January is a difficult time to sign players because clubs are reluctant to sell. But I have never been on the phone so much in my life in football management."
Boro could also face a battle this month to hang onto winger Adam Johnson with a number of Premier League clubs eyeing his signature.
