Defender eyes regular berth

Middlesbrough, 12:21, December 17, 2008 ,

Middlesbrough defender Tony McMahon has set his sights on a regular first team place after returning to the first team.

The 22-year-old has completed a successful loan deal at Sheffield Wednesday and returned to the side with an outstanding performance in the draw with Arsenal last Saturday.
With the injury to regular right-back Justin Hoyte set to keep him out of the side for at least a month McMahon has set his sights on a regular berth in the team.
He told the Gazette: "I loved every minute of it and I didn't want the game to end.
"I've worked really hard to get this chance again. No-one was there when I was on my own and it was a long road back.
"Obviously it was only my first game but I took my chance with both hands and thought I did really well.
"I was flying into everything, my timing was good and I felt fit, I was just buzzing.
"It was nice to have a little hand in the goal as well and I was running on adrenaline.
"I closed Gael Clichy down, the ball hit me and fell to Tuncay.
"It was a great ball in and what a finish by Jeremie.
"I'm feeling fit and strong and hopefully I'm over all my injuries and I can kick on now."
