England hopes for winger

Middlesbrough, 15:24, October 14, 2008 ,

Middlesbrough winger Stewart Downing is hoping he will feature in England's clash with Belarus on Wednesday night.

The 23-year-old is in the squad and he has travelled out to Minsk with Fabio Capello's men and with the current crop of injuries in the camp he could yet feature in the game, although an appearance from the bench appears to be his best chance.
"Both Kazakhstan and Belarus are two winnable games but I'll have to wait and see if I get selected," said Downing.
"Hopefully I've done enough for Middlesbrough to show what I'm about.
"I'm reasonably happy with my form, so I'd like to play in both games in some capacity.
"I'm not taking anything away from the two teams we're playing, but England will be expected to take maximum points from both games.
"It should be a chance for us to get a couple of good results and, of course, I'd be happy to play."
