I want Turnbull and Jones to stay - Southgate

Middlesbrough, 12:56, October 19, 2008 ,

Gareth Southgate says he is hopeful both Ross Turnbull and Brad Jones will sign contract extensions to keep them at Middlesbrough.

Boro have been linked with Borussia Dortmund shot stopper Roman Weidenfeller, who will be available come January after failing to agree a new contract with the German side.
However Southgate is still keen to keep hold of Turnbull and Jones, whose contracts expire at the end of the current season, and they will be able to sign a pre-contract agreement with another club in January.
Neither goalkeeper has been given the number one shirt for the season and Southgate is hopeful that the competitive situation at the Riverside will reduce the need for him to look elsewhere.
"There's been no further progress, but ideally I'd like them both here. We feel they're going to be top goalkeepers," Southgate told the Sunday Sun.
"I think they both realise there's an opportunity here for them.
"They both know that there's no guaranteed No 1 and it's developing into a great battle between them ? it's a healthy situation."
