Tony Mowbray admits his Middlesbrough squad is lacking the creative spark required to secure promotion from the npower Championship.

Boro's failure to convert the final ball in a frustrating goalless draw with Doncaster has focused Mowbray's mind on recruiting more flair players this summer. "The balance of the squad isn't as we would like and I've talked before about the make-up of our squad," he said. "We are not a team with a small budget in this league, we're a million miles away from being the biggest one of course, but the balance of the team isn't quite right. "We've got defensive-minded midfielders who allow us to keep clean sheets and win games on the break away from home. "And yet at home when you have to be creative, clever, break teams down and pick the final pass that puts the guy in on goal, we aren't endowed with that type of footballer. "My message to the team was to put some more passes together rather than put it forward too early. Ultimately we didn't find an answer to scoring a goal, whichever way we decided to do it."
